Holiday Shopping - Adwords Shotguns ‘a firing

Finally back from a wonderful family visit, I started doing a bit of holiday shopping this morning online. As I search, I am distracted by the horrible Adwords advertisements that are being run, no doubt at extremely high costs. If anything can be read into them it’s desperation. I thought it might be good to post a list of critical points that apply to any Pay Per Click ads:

  1. Direct your ads to your products, not your home page.
  2. Utilize a call to action, give people some kind of prompt.
  3. Use a headline that we will read, not your company name.
  4. Refine your ads - prune these low value, low clickthrough ads. Remember that Google rewards higher clickthrough. It’s like free money!

If you’d like me to glance at your adwords ads, I’ll be happy to give them a glance (but please just send me the ad, don’t ask me to find it. Use the clipboard so I can see the URL, too.)
